Welcome to Pepper Grey Stories - a new series sharing the lives of the gentle souls behind our collars. Every hound has a story: how they found their person, the quiet ways they've changed a home, the small moments that make them who they are. We're so honoured to share them with you.

Finding Lily

I met Lily through the Foster to Adopt program run by Greyhounds as Pets (formerly GAPSA). The moment we met, I knew she was something special. We spent barely 20 seconds together before I thought, "We're going to be just fine." She came home with me on 20 February this year, and ever since then, we've become our own little team.

Life together

Our mornings are my favourite part of the day. We sit together over a coffee while Lily enjoys her breakfast. No matter how busy life gets, I always make sure we have that quiet time together before I head off to work.

We walk every single day, and the beach is without question Lily's happy place. These days, whenever I'm making plans, my first thought is always, "Can Lily come too?" She's become such an important part of my life that it wouldn't feel the same without her by my side.

Living with Lily has taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things. She's the most joyful, caring and wonderfully goofy soul, and she never fails to make me smile.

One of our biggest highlights is being accepted onto the board of the Long Dog Club for next year. It's something we're both incredibly excited about and can't wait to be part of.

Lily's Pepper Grey style

Lily wears the Suki Martingale Collar, and I couldn't imagine a better match for her. The green stands out beautifully against her coat (it's my favourite colour too!), and the bright, slightly chaotic pattern perfectly captures her personality—especially when she's zooming around the beach.

A few more things about Lily

You might notice Lily is off-leash in a few of these photos. We've spent countless hours working on her recall, both at home and in secure, fenced spaces. She now comes straight back to me with a whistle or her name. Whenever we're at the beach, she's only off lead at a designated dog beach, and only when there aren't any other dogs around.

As for food... she's become quite the little princess! Dry biscuits simply won't do unless they're topped with a raw egg or some sardines.

Lily has come camping with me, loves meeting new people, insists on saying hello to everyone we pass, and brings so much happiness wherever she goes. She's become such a huge part of my world, and honestly... she's simply the best!
